How to Get Highest Autoflowering Cannabis Yields
Plant Your Autoflowers in Their Final Containers
Use a Larger Pot
Use the Best Pot Material
Use Light and Airy Growing Medium
Add Some Root Stimulant
Adding a root stimulant can help support root development. One way to increase your confidence as a grower is to use beneficial fungi in your growing medium. This will help improve the health and growth of your plants. Mycorrhizal fungi increase nutrient and water uptake, protect plants from disease, and generally promote an optimal growth environment.
Start Your Seedlings Indoors
Starting your plants indoors will help you achieve the best results when growing indoors or outdoors. Since autos develop very fast, you must ensure the roots of your seedlings progress as quickly. A cool white CFL, appropriate LED, or even a sunny windowsill are all excellent options for lighting a plant. Make sure your autoflower grows vegetative, and it will bloom on schedule.
Support Your Plant’s Structure
To help your plants stay upright and their buds healthy, you may need to stake or support them somehow. There are several ways to approach this. Bamboo stakes and netting can help a plant support its heavy weight, and tomato plant cages can help it grow more efficiently.
Optimal Hours of Light
Some people believe that keeping plants under a 24-hour light cycle is beneficial, while others believe this practice is unnecessary. The 18/6 is still the most popular, and it will save you money on energy.
Of course, you could grow your autos with less light. However, to produce a huge harvest, you want to provide them with as much light as possible. The more light your plant receives, the more buds it will develop.
Outside growers can relax and let Mother Nature take care of their plants. Natural sunlight is much stronger and more efficient than any artificial bulb. Therefore, autoflowers growing in a warm, sunny climate will thrive and produce a juicy harvest.
Reverse Osmosis Water
Tap water is not the best choice to provide healthy growth for your autoflower. This is because tap water may be chlorinated, fluoridated, or comprise other pollutant substances, which can seriously harm the microbial growth in the soil. Therefore, the best way to ensure that your plant produces a healthy and rich harvest is by using reverse osmosis water.
Reverse osmosis is a process that produces pure, ultra-filtered water. With this water treatment system, you can control the mineral content of your water. This can help your plants grow nutrient-rich and yield more.
Nutrients and pH
Autoflowers are smaller than other strains, so they use less water and nutrients. If you’re using cannabis nutrients for ordinary cultivation, start with a lower dose, such as 50% or 25%, and gradually increase.
Soil growers should use lightly fertilized soil when growing autoflower cannabis. These fragile plants will not survive in heavily fertilized soils. Aside from supplements like beneficial fungi, enzymes, and B vitamins, autos don’t require large doses of base nutrients during their vegetative phase. When using quality soil, the plants can harvest just fine without any extra nutrients.
It is very easy to over-fertilize autoflower cannabis, which is a common mistake. Most autoflower growers come across. If you must add nutrients to the soil early on, do so sparingly to avoid overdoing it. In general, nutrients and boosters are all it needs during its life cycle, including the flowering stage.
When the pH is not within the correct range, our plants will not be able to absorb nutrients. The optimal pH of water that you grow plants in should be around 6.0 to 7.0. You can change the pH of your water with a few drops of pH up or down products. This will adjust the water’s pH window to the correct level.
Keep an Eye on the Climate control
Seedlings need moisture to thrive, while flowering plants don’t need as much humidity as it may cause mold and rot.
Sometimes all that’s needed to create the perfect growing environment is something as simple as a standing fan or leaving a window open. If that doesn’t provide enough warmth or cooling, consider looking into solutions such as a heater or air conditioner for your cannabis grow room.
Provide Your Plants With CO₂
Plants use carbon dioxide as a fuel for photosynthesis, so increasing the level of CO₂ in your grow space will result in an increased growth rate and size.
Providing your plants with CO₂ is only beneficial if the other conditions from this article are met. If the temperature, humidity, water, or nutrients, in your grow room are not set correctly, address those issues before looking at a more complex CO₂ system.
Stress Your Plant
Low-stress training is a simple and effective method that all growers, including beginners, can use. This minimally invasive technique is gentle on plants and doesn’t involve significant damage.
Low-Stress Training (LST) encourages lateral growth by gently bending and tying down the stem and branches. Using this technique, you expose your autoflower to more light, which results in larger buds and much bigger harvests.
Another great technique that might work for you is topping your plant. However, this technique is more advanced and should be carried out only by experienced growers to avoid the opposite outcome. Before getting into more-advanced plant training techniques, ensure all other requirements are met.
Using Sea of Green (SOG)
SOG, otherwise known as the sea of green, is a method used to maximize yield by planting your cannabis as close to each other as possible. Autoflowering strains are the best choice for small grow-ops because they develop very fast and produce dense buds. The best thing is that there are no extra expenses to spend using this method.
Progressive Harvest
The flowers at the top of the canopy grow faster than the ones at the bottom. When the top buds are ready, clip them off, leaving the rest of the buds to ripen. Keep a close eye on your plants and look for signs of ripening buds. There should be 1-2 weeks between each harvest. Usually, autos require only two cycles of progressive harvest. However, it may push for more depending on the strain of your autoflower.
Record, Improve, Repeat
Practice makes perfect, and with the right knowledge and practice, anyone can become an expert grower. Record and improve each step of the process. Only then will you see which technologies work best for you and provides the best yields.
There is always the potential for something to go wrong when growing cannabis. Identifying and solving problems quickly is the key to the highest harvest. As you continue to improve, your yields will improve along.
